The foundation of Rusty's second solo project, ANGELS, is based firmly in Rusty's strong Christian's faith. Rusty shares the story behind this special album:
"Most all of the stories in the verses either happened to me or a loved one. The robbery actually happened to my brother Craig out on tour [referring the the title track "ANGELS"]. I wrote it with my producer Scott Baggett."
"This is a link to my ANGELS' recording, now available for free on YouTube and Spotify. I just want y'all to hear it because that's why I made it. To be heard. The songs resonate as much or more today than when I recorded them. I hope you like it and will share it with your friends. And seriously, thanks for your love and support. ❤️ RUSTY"
Tracks: 1. Lookin’ Up 2. Feeling Alright 3. Angels 4. Line in the Sand 5. Master Plan
To better understand the heart of Rusty's songwriting, we encourage you to read further down the page for interviews and more related to Rusty's faith.
Rusty puts his trust in the Lord and allows Him to lead the way, and as he's done so, Rusty has publicly shared his faith. One such beautiful affirmation is this: "Until the Lord calls me away from this world to the next, I want to make it clear that I believe in Jesus Christ as the true Lord and Savior. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, was sacrificed on the cross, died for our sins, and rose again. HE loves us."

On June 9, 2024, Rusty gave this short 1 minute interview to Kerry Pharr of In Your Corner. As you may have noticed, Rusty has the ability to speak in a succinct style which in a few words, encapsulates a much larger thought, especially when it comes to deep and important topics. Give a listen as Rusty makes a wonderful point of emphasizing his belief in “Jesus Christ of Nazareth”.
The phrase “Jesus Christ of Nazareth” perfectly encapsulates the teaching central to Christian belief that Jesus is both fully God and fully man -- one person with two distinct natures (one divine and one human).
Rusty, with brother Chris, join Today's Nashville: This is Faith hostess Terry Squires, to talk about faith, family, and music. Full interview premiered November 15, 2022. Rusty, speaking about the beginnings of his faith journey says:
“There was never a point in my life where belief in God, Jesus, the Christian way, was not a part of my life. There's never, I mean, all I remember is five prayers a day consistent. The morning prayer, which is just thank you for letting us wake up…that was a morning prayer. There was three prayers… from the three meals a day…those and then the evening before bed. Everyday, 24/7, I mean not 24/7, but 365. On the knees. The morning and evening. Knees only. Yes. It's always been there.
Now Chris talks about ‘when did it hit you’ -- I, honestly with me, I've had a few times. I really have. I've had those times where it hits me and I've been a good boy for a little while, and then I needed another dose, you know. And right now I'm in a good place because there's a part of me that says I'm not, I'll never be good enough to be like my grands, but if I get wrapped up in that mess that's just the bad side working in my head…When I get down to those couple of really good verses that are in the Bible that say --- there's a reason John 3:16 is so popular and powerful, because if I believe that, I sleep better at night. And I pray every day, but it's not it's not like my grandparents did it. Right now for me, I'm single. It's a lot of praying, a lot of 'thank you Lord' all day long. A lot of that, more ‘thank yous’ than ‘please give me.’”
Rusty prays daily and sometimes he shares a little window into his little talks with the Lord - perhaps these little talks will resonate with you too.
